NUCCA New Patient Information
Our new patient appointment takes a total of about 3 hours. We usually split the appointment into two chunks of time. The first part takes about 75 minutes. At this time, you get an oral medical history with the doctor, and your pre adjustment X-rays taken. The doctor will take some time to analyze your X-rays, determining your specific misalignment. The second part of the appointment takes about 90 minutes. During this time, the doctor will give their report of findings, and give you your first NUCCA adjustment! The doctor will then take post adjustment X-rays to show a measurable reduction of your misalignment. You will also have some time to rest to allow the adjustment to stabilize.
Usually the doctor will want to see you about a week after your first adjustment to follow the healing cycle of the body. After that, the frequency of appointments depends on your body. The goal is to hold the adjustment. Usually, once people stabilize they come in roughly once a month or every six weeks to get checked and to do some maintenance work. This treatment plan will also vary depending on your body and your lifestyle.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does insurance cover this? Do you accept my insurance?
A: We do not participate in any form of insurance filing. If your policy covers chiropractic, we can give you a receipt to submit to them, and they may reimburse you.
Q: Can you use my X-rays from another chiropractor or MD?
A: The X-rays that our doctors take are called upper cervical specific X-rays. They are very precise views of your head and neck that the doctors use to determine exactly how your atlas is misaligned, and exactly how to adjust you. Therefore, unless you have been to another upper cervical doctor, your X-rays will not transfer.
The radiation exposure is extremely low with the NUCCA x-ray series, due to special lead filters that block out a majority of the radiation. The NAS (National Academy of Sciences) considers a single exposure of the whole body of 50,000 mrems (50 rems) to be a high level dose.

Q: Do I get X-rayed every time I get adjusted?
A: No. Because the atlas tends to slip back into the same misalignment, the same X-rays can be used to adjust you over and over. Usually the only time you need to be re-filmed is if you have some sort of trauma that changes your misalignment, such as a bad car accident. Your doctor will determine when that is necessary.
Q: How is NUCCA different from other chiropractic techniques?
A: NUCCA is an extremely gentle and precise adjustment. The doctor uses upper cervical specific X-rays to analyze exactly how your atlas is misaligned, and then adjusts you accordingly. There is no cracking or popping type of adjustment in our office. For more information about NUCCA, please visit the About NUCCA area of our website.
